The narrow road leading to the Mineral Bar campground typically deters RVs and trailers from accessing the sites. All sites have picnic tables, fire pits, and pit toilets available. Visitors need to bring their own drinking water or filtration method. Ice House provides Year-round fishing, depending on accessible road conditions. Rainbow, brown, and brook trout are planted by California Department of Fish and Wildlife every other week May through September.

Accommodation Camping Options

Both were a short walk to the water and close to the toilets. Your recreation opportunities continue into the winter, with skiing, snowboarding, sledding, tubing, xc skiing and snowshoeing available. There are two ski operations that offer equipment rentals, Sierra at Tahoe and Kirkwood , located within the forest. You can also head to Loon Lake Chalet for xc skiing and snowshoeing, with miles of ungroomed backcountry trails. With over 350 miles of hiking trails, you can walk along the foothills or trek through the Sierras and you’ll see stunning views. You can set out on trails like the renowned Pacific Crest Trail, see the beautiful Lake Margaret, or hike out to the breathtaking Horsetail Falls.

General Camping Information

Lake Berryessa is the largest lake in Napa County and a very scenic place to spend the night. The campground at Rancho Seco Lake has 32 tent campsites and 18 spots to park an RV, with electric hookups available. It's a popular family destination throughout the year, and reservations are available online. The campground is centered around the scenic Jenkinson Lake, where activities like fishing, boating, and paddle sports are common. Other popular activities at Sly Park Recreation Area include hiking, barbecuing, and having bonfires in the designated fire pits. Other great hiking trails are a short drive from the campground, including the tumbling Bassi Falls trail less than 10 miles away.

On Highway 50, east of Placerville, travel for 21 miles to the Icehouse Road turnoff on your left. Sunset Campground sits in the Crystal Basin at an elevation of 5,000 feet. Some sites are fully shaded while others sit in a meadow.

The Ultimate Wilderness Retreat Loon Lake, a short drive from Ice House Reservoir, is a haven for adventurers.

It’s a perfect hike for those seeking a tranquil escape and an opportunity to immerse themselves in the Sierra’s natural wonders. Ice House Campground is divided into two separate loops, one on either side of the launch ramp area. Campsites are in a mixed conifer forest with a preponderance of Ponderosa pines. Some sites are along the water while others are set farther back in the trees. The others can accommodate RVs, trailers, or tents.

The national forest also operates the Northwind Campground and Strawberry Campground on the Ice House Reservoir, east of Ice House Campground. Both feature primitive campsites and less expensive camping rates. A scenic hiking trail connects all three campgrounds in the area. Popular campsites in the region tend to book out fast during the long summer season. Camping amenities also differ, ranging from private hot shower stalls to only pit toilets at some camping spots near the capital city.

The park has 65 pull-through sites that all have full hookups, including free wireless internet. Other amenities at the campground include a laundry room, private hot showers, and a dog park. The nine spacious sites at Northwind Campground lend to a feeling of solitude. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are sometimes completely full during weekends throughout the summer. Vault toilets are available, and visitors need to bring their own drinking water. Two boat launches and an expansive day-use area are located near the campground, and campers can easily access the shore from their campsite.
